MTG Marinetechnik calculates complex marine projects faster, more accurately and transparently with 4cost-aces

With 4cost-aces, MTG Marinetechnik GmbH relies on a powerful solution for parametric cost calculation – for informed decisions, efficient processes and maximum planning reliability. Michael Rudius, Head of Operations at MTG Marinetechnik GmbH, reports on his successful work with the costing software.

MTG Marinetechnik GmbH

For over 60 years, MTG Marinetechnik GmbH has been the centre of knowledge and expertise for maritime projects. MTG supports its customers throughout the entire planning and procurement process – from the early phases of strategic requirements management to maintaining capabilities during use. As an independent systems integrator, the company not only works for the German Armed Forces (Bundeswehr), but also handles projects for industrial customers both nationally and internationally.

The ‘Operations’ department is where everything comes together. Here, Michael Rudius, Head of Operations, coordinates the implementation of challenging customer projects, which are carried out by specialists in shipbuilding, mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, sensor technology and weapons technology. One of his key tasks is to produce transparent and objective cost estimates for highly complex naval vessels, which consist of a large number of different components. ‘Our biggest challenge is to provide our customers with a reliable basis for far-reaching procurement decisions – and at the same time to support the federal government’s budget planning with clear figures, data and facts,’ explains Rudius.

To accomplish this demanding task, MTG relies on the costing software 4cost-aces. It enables the company to create cost models that are not only detailed but also flexibly adaptable. Projects such as the new F127 frigate class or the Future Combat Surface System (FCSS) benefit directly from this methodology: planning decisions can be made more quickly, on a more informed basis and with a high degree of transparency and traceability.

‘With the implementation of 4cost-aces, we have consistently further developed our established processes. Following an intensive testing and implementation phase, almost all cost estimates at MTG are now carried out using 4cost-aces,’ says Rudius. The standardised system, the reusability of components and the ability to flexibly adapt familiar modules to new requirements are particularly appreciated. This not only leads to efficiency gains, but also significantly increases the consistency of calculations – a factor that builds trust.

In addition to proven procedures, 4cost-aces offers MTG further decisive advantages: ‘ Now we are also able to calculate where we previously had to work with approximate values – for example, in project management, documentation, software or maintenance costs,’ says Rudius. It is precisely this transparency that makes the difference: Nowadays, MTG can present its customers with well-founded cost forecasts that provide a significantly higher degree of certainty and minimise risks in the procurement process.

The successful implementation of 4cost-aces at MTG Marinetechnik GmbH demonstrates how specialised costing software can effectively complement existing strengths, and further enhance the quality and transparency of procurement decisions in the sensitive field of defence technology.
