INTRODUCTION – About Bentley Motors Ltd.

Bentley Motors was founded by W.O. Bentley in 1919 when the first Bentley engine burst into life at New Street Mews, London. From these modest beginnings, W.O’s company went from strength to strength through the 1920s, with an evolving series of acclaimed motorcars and a parade of racing triumphs to prove their outstanding performance. These laurels were capped with five outright victories at Le Mans between 1924 - 1930 and a sixth in 2003.

If we had mission statements in those days, it could not have been expressed more eloquently than in the words of W.O. himself, “To build a good car, a fast car, the best in class”.

These words are just as relevant today as they continue to inform our beliefs, actions and ambitions for the future. Located in Crewe, England since 1946 and owned since 1998 by Volkswagen AG, Bentley Motors is dedicated to making responsive and powerful Grand Tourers with the stamina to cross-continents at pace, and drive in refined comfort and style.

aces – AREAS OF APPLICATION

“We use the parametric model aces in the finance department to get a fast and clear overview about production costs of new design studies. We also support our engineers to hit their cost targets”, says Mark Haehndel – Manager of the Finance Cost Engineering department at Bentley, Crewe.
He continues: “We support our purchase department with the cost analysis functionality of aces to give them technical qualified cost analysis as a basis for negotiations with suppliers.”

“We decided for aces because of its clear structure. Long-term usage has proven its value in different areas of engineering, excellent references from existing customers have confirmed our decision. A high level of support and services, driven by [skio:] Cost Services – Berlin, ensure a successful implementation.”

In addition we see the tremendous potential of aces to support also other departments to clarify their cost structures. Herewith we are able to make the right decisions at a very early stage of product development and supplier selection, explains Mr. Haehndel.

aces – NEXT STEPS AT BENTLEY

“With our management we agreed to move forward with the aces method, to estimate development costs of new products. With this possibility we will get more strength in cost, tooling and software negotiation with our suppliers.”

Mr Haehndel is convinced that further invested money into the aces system will be amortised in a short period of time as it was already experienced with the first investment 2 years ago.
